Suffolk Bunkers

I met Peter Wylie almost two years ago, while on a visit to Gainsborough's House in Sudbury (some of the images in the Suffolk gallery were taken that day). He was at the start of an MA in printmaking at the Camberwell College of Arts. His final project (on display until today in the graduation show) focused on a series of WWII bunkers from his native Suffolk. Peter created seven etchings that he paired with seven reflective poems written by Stephen Devereux.

The little book we launched last week also includes seven of the photographs I had taken of Peter at work, etching and printing. The old techniques and machines require a physical engagement that somehow matches the austere architecture and melancholy landscapes of Peter's subject. Finally, a nod to blurb for the quality of the production of the book.
